In April 2021 a specialist at ITT Goulds in Seneca Falls NY reached out to Finger Lakes 3D with a question and a challenge. “Can you 3D print Polyurethane tags at our specified resolution and can you reliably make 20+ tags a day?”
PU is notoriously hard to print- jamming often and with poor resolution. We stepped up to the build plate. With Finger Lakes 3D, we have the know how and skills to FFF print most plastics. With our proprietary extruders, custom manufactured for Polyurethane, we exceeded the specification demands. Offering 99% tooling free prints than are production ready – right from the bed. We now provide tags for 2 different production lines that operate daily. Foundry operators prefer the bright colors and PU for ease of application and mold-release. No sharp metal, no tooling. It is resistant to the petroleum compounds in the casting sand and can withstand the high compression of the mold making process. Since this is a digital work-flow, fonts, spacing, and shape of tags has minimal impact on costs or production turnaround.
